DIY Chipboard Alphabet Tiles

  1. Begin with cereal box chipboard.
  2. Glue two or three (depending on your desired tile thickness) together.  I use Aileen’s tacky glue for this.
  3. Cover with patterned paper
  4. Lay flat between two pieces of wax or parchment paper
  5. Place heavy books on top until everything is dry.
  6. Once dry, cut chipboard into pieces approximately 3/4″ x 1/2″ in size.  I use my guillotine cutter for this.
  7. Ink edges of tiles
  8. Cut out letters of varying sizes and fonts from magazines, word finds, books, newspapers.  Or print your own.
  9. Using triple thick, diamond glaze, glossy accents, mod podge, clear fingernail polish-use what you have on hand-glue down letters and seal the tile.  Include the edges.
  10. Let dry completely before storing

I never seem to have enough E’s, T’s and R’s in my purchased letter packages/stickers.  This is the perfect way to make your letters in larger amounts.  You can use up your scrap paper which will give you a variety of patterns and colors. They are an easy make ahead project, ready when you need them.

This is another simple DIY which can be altered as desired.  Make your tiles bigger for individual words, even larger for quotes and phrases.  Or change things up and use an image instead of a letter.  These inexpensive tiles can really add a lot to your journal pages or mixed media canvases.
